Kayak Tahoe is committed
to introducing beginners to the sport of kayaking or to
improving your current paddling skills. We offer a
variety of courses for the novice, intermediate, and
advanced paddler. We have A.C.A-trained instructors on
staff who will provide you with the skills and
techniques necessary to safely enjoy your time on the
water. Reservations are necessary for all Kayak School
classes, and there is typically a four-person minimum
to book a class. Call (530) 544-2011 for more
information and reservations.
Please note that all of
our sit-on-top kayak and paddleboard rentals include
basic instruction to get you started--you don't need
to take a class to rent a sit-on-top kayak or
paddleboard from us!

Introduction
to Kayaking
If you would like to try paddling a performance touring
sea kayak but are not interested in getting wet (as required
in the Beginning Kayak Touring lesson) this class is for you. This is also
ideal for the sit-on-top or "recreational"
kayak enthusiast who would like a bit more instruction
than is given in our basic beach rental briefing.
We'll cover paddling equipment and nomenclature, the
basic paddle strokes and techniques, water safety, and related topics.
Cost: $35.00 Duration: 1.5 hours

Beginning Kayak Touring
This lesson will cover the skills and techniques necessary for you to
rent our traditional touring sea kayaks. While on the
beach, we'll discuss the nomenclature, fit, and
function of your kayak and equipment, then we'll
paddle out and learn the basic strokes and braces.
After a break, it's time to get wet! Everyone will
have a chance to practice a wet exit and the T-Rescue,
both as rescuer and rescuee. Yes, the lake is pretty
chilly, but we provide wetsuits for this absolutely
necessary skill session. The cost includes all equipment, instruction, and half-price rentals
on your next visit to Kayak Tahoe.
Cost: $65.00 Duration: 4 hours
|
Intermediate/Advanced Lesson
We'll assess your skills and help you to move up to
the next level of performance paddling. This lesson
will focus on self-rescues and more advanced strokes
and bracing, giving you a solid foundation to move on
to the Eskimo Roll Class.
Cost:
$40.00 Duration: 2 hours
|
Eskimo Roll Class
If you are serious about paddling in rough water or
embarking on multi-day expeditions in challenging
conditions, you need to know how to roll. Your level
of expertise and self-rescue capability will jump
exponentially when you can pop yourself back upright
in all conditions. Plus, it's a great way to cool off
on a hot day on the lake . . .
Cost: $32.00 Duration: 1 hour
